An Inspector Calls Annotation Notes

An Inspector Calls Annotation Notes

(0)
This sheet contains information so students can annotate over 90 key quotations from the text. It should be noted that this was created for a fairly low ability class to help students who had missed a significant number of lessons to catch up. The annotations are not perceptive enough for students aiming for grades 7-9. They will nevertheless still offer a solid grounding for higher ability students to then explore the quotations further. The resource tells them the page number of each key quote so students must practise their scanning skills to find the quotation to highlight. Then students write the brief note beside each quotation to explain why it is important. The page numbers correspond to the Heinemann edition. Check the preview to ensure the page numbers correspond to the copy of the text you are using in class. Grade 9 response to attitudes to supernatural in Macbeth

(1)
A lesson aimed at preparing students on how Shakespeare presents Macbeth’s and Banquo’s attitudes to the supernatural. It includes an exam question and a grade 9 model answer. To start with, the PowerPoint annotates the set extract and then annotates 7 quotes from outside the extract that link to the supernatural. There is also a slide explaining how to link to context for A03. I have also added a writing frame to help mid-ability students a coherent response that explores a theme in an extract and the play as a whole. Also includes a timeline tracing the supernatural across the play. Lord of the Flies Quotation Organiser for Themes and Characters

(1)
Knowledge Organiser for Lord of the Flies along with a PowerPoint slide that contains questions explaining how students should use the knowledge organiser to revise each character’s development in the novel. I have selected crossover quotations that link to both characters and themes. I have also included some ideas for how to approach A03 context for each character and theme. The second page has a blank version of the knowledge organiser. I ask students to fill as much of the blank one in as they can and then show them my answers at the end.

Lord of the Flies revision lessons: big ideas, characters, quotations

(1)
I use these as final revision lessons for Lord of the Flies. I introduce 6 big ideas and ask students to complete a mind map by linking points, quotes and context to each BIG IDEA. They use my attached top 50 quotation sheet and knowledge organiser sheet to help them do this. I then model my answers for each BIG IDEA which appear one by one on the mouse click so you can talk through them. Also contains a detailed PowerPoint and accompanying worksheet for developing detailed grade 9 style explorations of key quotations covering the 5 main characters. Also contains a lesson or series of lessons covering how to plan a response on 6 main characters using a grid and 4 high grade exemplar responses. Update: also now includes a detailed lesson on how to write thesis style statements.

Plan A Christmas Carol Exam responses (Predicted topics for 2024)

Now we are several years into the new syllabus, I predict they might go for a more obscure extracts. I have been through the text and come up with 6 predictions about extracts that might come up in 2024. Students read each extract and complete the planning grid for each. Ideal to use in a final revision lesson. Also includes a planning resource which offers 3 levels of differentiation to help guide students on how to structure a full length response on the following 4 themes/topics: children, materialism, ghosts, Christmas. Tier 1 difficulty (I do): Big idea, topic sentences and quotations are provided. Students add the analysis of the quotations. Tier 2 difficulty (We do): Students must choose 2 quotations to support each topic sentence and analyse the quotations. Tier 3 difficulty (You do): Students have to generate the big idea, the topic sentences, 2 quotations a paragraph and the quotation analysis.
